YLDA executive committee (2007-08)

President
Rajendra Mulmi is an experienced youth leader and has been a common fixture in the liberal and democratic movement in Asia. He is the founding President of the Association of Youth Organisations Nepal (AYON) and Youth Initiative – Nepal and as such, has been a constant part of the policy and academic discourse on issues concerning the youth in his country. He was part of the National Youth Policy Drafting Committee of Nepal in 2005 and has worked as a consultant for various organisations including the World Bank, Save the Children, the UN, and JICA. An enthusiastic writer, he has published at The Himalayan Times and Youth Voices. He has degrees on Human Resource Development, Sociology and Economics and is presently finishing his MA in Political Science at Tribihuwan University. He is currently the Programme Manager for Search for Common Ground in Nepal.



Secretary General
Jan-Argy Tolentino
is the National Secretary-General of the Filipino liberal Youth organization Kabataang Liberal ng Pilipinas (KALIPI) and concurrently serves as the Deputy–Director General for Operations of the Liberal Party of the Philippines. He served as Political Affairs Officer for the Commission on Appointments in the Philippine Congress and he is now a faculty of the Department of Political Science & Public Administration at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Drawing from his immense experience and knowledge on youth concerns, he has been a constant speaker and facilitator on various seminars on politics. He has a degree on Political Science with specialization on Public Administration from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and is presently a second year law student of the same university.


Executive Member
Chee Wey Hng is currently a youth committee member of the Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia. An adviser to Gerakan Belia Bersatu Malaysia (Penang Northeast District and Bukit Bendera Branch), he also works as a special assistant to the Information Deputy Minister of Malaysia. He is also a board committee member in Heng Ee School, author of several published articles in Oriental Daily, and a student of Wawasan Open University taking up Bachelors of Business in Logistic and Supply Chain Management. As a testament to his unwavering public service work, he was awarded with the “Community Service Award-PJM” by the Penang State Governor.

Camelia Puji Astuti (PKB Youth, Indonesia)
Camelia Puji Astuti is Vice Secretary General of the National Coordination Council Nations Awakening Youth Movement in Indonesia (GARADA BANGSA). A true youth leader, her charisma knows no boundaries as she has been appointed or elected youth representative of young Indonesians both inside and outside Indonesia. She was a member of the Indonesian Student Associations in United Kingdom, United States of America, and Australia. An avid liberal advocate, she is also known for supporting women empowerment. Henceforth, she is the current Secretary General of Nation Awakening Women Movement in the Jambi region of Indonesia. Miss Astuti has degrees on Branding Strategy from Brunel University, United Kingdom and Product Design from Pelita Harapan University.


Executive Member

Buddhika Pathirana, the Director Media of Institute for Democracy and Leadership (IDL) and the Country President of IDL-Liberal Youth Guild, is the newest addition to the growing YLDA family. He participated in an YLDA event in January 2007 and now works for YLDA as part of the Executive Committee. Buddhika is a member of the Southern regional parliament in Sri Lanka and a recipient of various government and private awards for his outstanding work in humanitarian services. Through his efforts, his Samadhi Foundation of Sri Lanka has helped provide livelihood opportunities to thousands of his countrymen. With the upcoming national elections, YLDA is looking forward to his contribution at the national parliament.

LYSA (SA working group)

Ross Parkash Mahtani, the current president of the Liberal Youth South Asia (LYSA), is a man on a mission. His effervescent nature does not at all temper his intense passion to tackle socio-political issues in the region, especially those that affect the youths and the minorities. He is General Secretary of Future Youth Group Pakistan and a member of the Institute of International Affairs Hyderabad. He took part in various workshops like those on politics and communications and on the role of Asian youths in promoting progressive education. He has degrees from Isra University, Hyderabad on Information Technology and MBA on Finance.

Garda Bangsa

Garda Bangsa was formed in 1998 following the successful political reform spearheaded by students and other campus activists to depose the tyrannical regime of President Suharto. The organization was founded by Abdurram Wahid, a former adviser of President Suharto who resigned following an escalation in government corruption and political management by the administration. He championed "Responsible Openness" within the government system and proposed the establishment of a Reform Committee in order to mitigate poor governance within the administration. His calls were left unheeded and so he eventually withdrew support for the government and joined the efforts advocating for reform in the government. Read more...
