Call for Nomination
2005-09-27

YLDA's previous workshops were centered on campaigns and its good to know that there are many youth activists among us. An upcoming women's workshop, facilitated by trainers from the UK Liberal Democrats and other women leaders, will be another great opportunity to strengthen their expertise in campaign and communications.

An YLDA delegation has been invited to attend the Liberal International-CALD Women's Workshop and CALD General Assembly with the theme Advancing Women in Politics: the Role of Political Parties and there is one additional slot for a participant coming from an YLDA member organization or individual member to attend. This is being organized by Liberal International (LI), the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) and the Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan (DPP), in cooperation with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF).

The workshop and training session for women (prospective candidates, political party staff and/or election campaigners) will be from October 12 to 13. From October 13 to 15, there will be an expanded conference coinciding with CALD's General Assembly, which the successful YLDA nominee will also join.

Nominees from YLDA member organizations or individual members should send the following to the YLDA secretariat no later than 03:00 a.m. GMT on October 3: 1.) Letter of intent; 2.) Curriculum vitae and 3.) A description of the campaign work they've done for their party/organization and their role in it. Send it to programofficer@yldasia.org and/or fax number ++63 2 8103189.

The successful nominee will be informed on October 4.

Note: Hotel accommodations, local transport and dinners will be sponsored by the DPP while a round-trip airfare (from the city of origin to Taipei) will be shouldered by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation.

Garda Bangsa

Garda Bangsa was formed in 1998 following the successful political reform spearheaded by students and other campus activists to depose the tyrannical regime of President Suharto. The organization was founded by Abdurram Wahid, a former adviser of President Suharto who resigned following an escalation in government corruption and political management by the administration. He championed "Responsible Openness" within the government system and proposed the establishment of a Reform Committee in order to mitigate poor governance within the administration. His calls were left unheeded and so he eventually withdrew support for the government and joined the efforts advocating for reform in the government. Read more...
