Press Release: YLDA Sec Gen Heads to India for South Asia Youth Event 2008-01-25
YLDA visits India for the first time. Jan Argy Tolentino, YLDA Secretary General,
is scheduled to arrive in Kochin on February 6 for the Liberal Youth South Asia's
(LYSA) 3rd Annual General Assembly (AGM) and Strategic Planning Workshop.
He is representing YLDA in the event and shall act as its observer during the
AGM where he is also expected to hold dialogues with South Asian youth leaders.
This five-day convention of liberal youths marks the efforts to strengthening
LYSA structure and organization while forging closer relationship with other
umbrella organizations in India and Asia.
Jan Argy is also set to meet with the LYSA and FNF-India leadership to renew
alliances and offer proposals for partnerships this 2008. One such event is
the Training of Trainors (TOT) program on Facilitation and Moderation wherein
participants from South Asia, East and Southeast Asia will be taught the rudiments
of facilitating programs and workshops.
A true liberal youth leader, Jan Argy will be drawing from his vast experience
in youth mobilization and organizing as he contributes in the strategic planning
sessions and discussions.
Jan Argy also represents the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY)
as its Vice President in the event.
Garda Bangsa was formed in 1998 following the successful political reform spearheaded
by students and other campus activists to depose the tyrannical regime of President
Suharto. The organization was founded by Abdurram Wahid, a former adviser of President
Suharto who resigned following an escalation in government corruption and political
management by the administration. He championed "Responsible Openness"
within the government system and proposed the establishment of a Reform Committee
in order to mitigate poor governance within the administration. His calls were
left unheeded and so he eventually withdrew support for the government and joined
