Nurturing and training young liberal minds is what the summer internship of the Young Liberals and Democrats of Asia (YLDA) and the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD) aspire to do as the two organizations open their doors to dedicated and promising college students wishing to learn with the leading liberal-democratic youth and political organizations in Asia.
As the Pan-Asia organizations of Asian liberals, CALD and YLDA offer successful applicants a chance to learn and work with leading personalities working for the promotion of the liberal-democratic framework in Asia. For its part, YLDA has been fulfilling this when it introduced various mechanisms and instruments institutionalizing the adoption and practice of liberal democratic values amongst Asia?s youths.
Aside from working for a worthy cause, the CALD-YLDA Internship Program offers students a multi-cultural working environment, a chance to learn and work with a highly qualified and dynamic staff, interact with who?s who in liberal politics, and most importantly, an opportunity to be trained by and be identified with organizations known for international work and achievements. A chance for international travel on a cost-sharing basis is also possible depending on the qualification, performance, and commitment of the successful applicants.

The program is suited for aspirants interested in the field of international politics and advocacy, youth issues, liberalism, human rights, and research and networking. While successful applicants will be working closely with a professional staff, CALD and YLDA are looking for individuals who can work with minimal supervision, highly dependable, computer literate, and internet savvy. Applicants must also possess skills in operating computer software applications like Microsoft Office.
Skills in desktop publishing, editing, and Macromedia Flash applications are highly desirable. Interns should be ready to render at least 200 training hours from April to May. Finally, since YLDA and CALD are partners of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and are in always touch with organizations around the world, applicants must possess above-average verbal and written English skill.
Interested applicants may send their curriculum vitae and inquiries via email
to programofficer@yldasia.org
or programofficer@cald.org
or call at (+632) 8403728-29. Deadline of application is on March 31,
2008.
Garda Bangsa was formed in 1998 following the successful political reform spearheaded
by students and other campus activists to depose the tyrannical regime of President
Suharto. The organization was founded by Abdurram Wahid, a former adviser of President
Suharto who resigned following an escalation in government corruption and political
management by the administration. He championed "Responsible Openness"
within the government system and proposed the establishment of a Reform Committee
in order to mitigate poor governance within the administration. His calls were
left unheeded and so he eventually withdrew support for the government and joined
the efforts advocating for reform in the government. Read more...
