General of YLDA and President of Youth Initiative attended
a week long Seminar "Strengthening of and networking
between liberal youth organizations in South Asia"
held in Brussels and Berlin from 12-19 February 2005. The
seminar was organised by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation.
The objective of this seminar was to strengthen liberalism
in South Asia at the youth level by bringing liberal youth
organizations together. This was a kick off activity as
part of the FNF South Asian office which aims to establish
a network of liberal youth organizations in South Asia as
one of the major regional project for the year 2005. Representatives
from four organizations (three of which are members of YLDA)
were present in the seminar. They will also form the core
team of the Liberal Youth Network of South Asia. These organisations
are ILG (Youth Wing), India; Future Youth Group (Youth Wing
of Liberal Forum Pakistan), Pakistan; Youth Initiative,
Nepal and Institute of Democracy and Leadership (IDL) Srilanka.
The member organizations shall exchange experiences, ideas,
information and seminar concepts. Besides networking via
information technology, regional
workshops on liberalism and skill development will be organized
as part of actions for the year 2005.
Mr Mulmi said that the program was very fruitful and there
were opportunities to meet and interact with various liberal
youth groups like IFLRY, LYMEC, Young Liberals of Germany
(YuLis), European Youth Forum, etc. The YLDA Secretary General
also shared his experience with the participants from the
South Asia about building up Liberal Youth Network. He also
discussed various issues on cooperation and networking with
